New Delhi: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has requested support from other full members of the International Cricket Council ahead of next month’s crucial meeting where the future of the match in the South Asian country is likely to be decided.
A tremendous increase for a torn country has become the story of Cricket’s biggest fairy tale in several times but Afghan risk isolation follows the takeover of Taliban in the country in August.
The Australian Cricket (CA) has threatened to test a test one next month in the Hobart between the men’s teams if the new government in Kabul does not allow women to play sports.
The ICC World Government Agency has taken a waiting and watching approach whether Afghanistan can continue as a full member – which allows him to play test matches – but will discuss this issue at the council meeting after the Twenty20 World Cup in the Middle East.
“ACB is committed to working for the development of cricket in this country and hoping for full ICC members will provide their support,” said the Afghan Council Chairman Azizullah Fazli told Reuters.
Fazli said last month ACB was committed to women’s cricket but was waiting for instructions from the Taliban government in their future.
Taliban officials said they would not repeat the harsh government from the previous Taliban government, which prohibited the education of most girls and prohibit women from coming out in public without male people.
CA Chief Executive Nick Hockley said the Hobart test is likely to be postponed until there is more clarity about the impact of the Taliban takeover in sports in Afghanistan.
Fazli said he would meet CA officials on the sidelines of the Twenty20 World Cup and tried to convince them to continue the match on schedule.
“We relate to CA management regarding test matches, and soon we will meet with leadership to discuss it and further friendship CA and ACB,” Fazli said in text messages.
The Head of ACB added that uncertainty would not affect the performance of the Afghan team under the captain of Mohammad the Prophet.
“The Afghan national cricket team is ready to do the best in the T20 World Cup,” he said.
Afghanistan will start their ‘Super 12’ stage campaign with October 25 clashes against qualifications in Sharjah.
