The United Nations: Afghan Ambassador for the United Nations withdrew from conveying the address to world leaders at the General Assembly on Monday, a UN spokesman said.
Ghulam Isaczai, who represented the President of the President of Ashraf Ghani who was overthrown last month, has been due to opposing the Taliban with a speech but its name was removed from the list of speakers Monday morning.
“This country attracted its participation in a general debate,” Monica Grayley, presidential spokesman Assembly, confirmed to AFP.
He added that Afghanistan’s mission to the United Nations did not quote the reason for withdrawal.
Taliban wrote a letter to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres last week called on New Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, was allowed to “participate.” The letter insisted that Isaczai “no longer represent” Afghanistan in the global body.
The letter said that the Taliban had nomined their Doha-based spokesman Suhail Shaheen as a permanent representative of Afghanistan against the United Nations.
Note came after Guterres received a separate letter from Isaczai, on September 15, which lists Afghanistan delegation for this session.
The letter included Isaczai as a permanent representative of Afghanistan.
The United Nations still considers Isaczai head of Afghanistan mission.
“Only a mission can be interesting,” from overcoming assembly, a UN official told AFP with anonymity requirements.
Afghanistan missions are not immediately available for comments.
The Nine Member Credential Committee covering the United States, Russia and China, must approve the Taliban request but do not meet on time.
