Rajkot: A 60-year-old farmer ends his life who is afraid of losing plants at his home in Gadhad Village in Muli Taluka from Surendranagar on Wednesday night.
Parmar Gumansinh who had died was found depending on his house by his family member, who later told the police.
According to the police, the family who died told them that Parmar had sowed cotton on his land a few days ago in the hope of a good rain spell.
“But there was no rain in the area and he was worried that the plants might fail.
So, he took extreme steps,” said a muli, investigating officers from the Muli Police Station.
Rain has played skipping with country recording only 39% of the average annual rainfall -Rata 840mm until August 18.
Rain shortages are almost 50% compared to normal rainfall.
Saurashtra and Kuch area is the worst blow with only 35% of the average rainfall until August 18.
Although August generally recorded two to three rain spells last for three to four days, but this year, there has been no reports of good rainfall.
Weather experts say that they did not expect dense rainfall for the next few days.
