Chandigarh: Agricultural activists on Saturday accused the Chandigarh police attacking them when they protested the government’s events in Behulana.
However, the police got rid of the claim.
Sangharsh Chandigarh (PSCC) Penu Committee Secretary General of Gurpreet Singh Sumal said The Sho from the Mauli Jagran police station, Rohit Kumar, also used unchanted languages against them and other personnel used strength against them even when they were detained voluntarily.
When contacted, Sho said it was an event attended by the governor and several new protesters detained.
However, Sumal said the police had hit one of the protesters, Kirpal Singh, with a stick in the ribs.
Sumal said the administration was trying to pass the event as a government, but BJP leaders were also involved in it.
The Sumal added that the protest was attended by PSCC activists, BKU (Tikaat) and Naujawan Kisan Ekta.
He said Kirpal, who belonged to Naujawan Kisan Ekta, will undergo a medical examination to strengthen attack claims.
“We will also file a complaint against police actions,” he said.
Detained Activists Includes: Joginder Singh Burail, Sharajit Singh, Sukhjit Singh Sukha, Gyan Chand, Gurdial Singh from PSCC, Kirpal Singh and Sarvesh Yadav from Naujawan Kisan Ekta, Kuldeep Keela of BKU (Tikait), and Balvir Singh and Balvir and Amandeep Singh From the activist team at Matka Chowk.
When contacted, SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said he had no complaints.
“It was the Governor’s event and the protesters were rounded when they tried to block it,” he said.
“Misunderstanding, or material, has been resolved at that time.”
