Ahmedabad: Every day AMC supplies 1,369 million liters of drinking water up to about 72 Lakh residents.
But every day, city corporation receives 1,739 million liters of waste water in waste treatment plants! The difference shows that amdavadis draws 370 million liters of extra water from the soil every day.
There are no state level ground water rules.
So it is not a central and AMC and AMC and AMC water council and indeed the State Water Resources Department has comprehensive data on the number of Borewells Dug in residential, commercial and industrial areas in the city.
Nearly 92% of the 15.55 lakh housing units have access to groundwater sources.
“The state government has a groundwater governance code since 2005.
It is provided by the center,” said a senior Narmada official, water resources and water supply departments.
The official said: “But the government has not implemented it as a state law.” More disturbing, according to the data available with Rajya Sabha, Ahmedabad City was found to have ground water at 67 meters (220 feet) in a limited aquifer.
Ahmedabad has a third-deep water water aquifer after Jaipur (84.7 meters) and Dehradun (79.2 meters).
To place a figure in perspective, the deepest level in Delhi is 64 meters.
In Chandigarh, it is 53.6 meters, and in Lucknow it is 45.8 meters.
Other Gujarat cities fate better with the deepest level at 12.3 meters in Vadodara, 5.5 meters in Rajkot, and 4.6 meters in the letter.
Data was collected from four wells in Ahmedabad and each Vadodara, and one well in Rajkot and each letter.
A senior AMC official said, “When studying the pattern of water consumption, most state institutions faced 7 floating populations 7 lakh which moved into the city of Talukas, cities, and neighboring cities to work or business.” The official added: “They drink water and use the toilet.
Nothing contributes to it.”
