Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), for the first time, is compiling separate guidelines for those who live in the World Heritage Zone for home improvement, institutions and their companies.
The guidelines came four years after the walled city was written by UNESCO as a world heritage city.
This guideline is part of the Civic Body Protection and Management Guidelines for World Heritage Sites.
Guidelines, with more than 30 dos and should not be done, and will define what type of outdoor unit – AC to solar panel – one can install.
It will also explain where the water tank can be established and its capacity depends on the strength of a structure.
If the gap appears on the structure, it won’t be enough to fill it with cement.
Conversely a structural engineer needs to find a source of gap.
“This is to say whether the gap comes from heavy burden on the terrace or weakening the foundation,” said an AMC senior official.
In terms of havelis, the outdoor unit cannot be installed on a sloping roof and some other guidelines are being framed.
“We are at the point half forming a guideline.
It will take four weeks before we can call the document as a concept,” said a senior AMC official.
Structural engineer panels have been employed to compile guidelines.
“We hope the residents of the walled city to stick to the guidelines if they decide to make structural improvements,” added AMC officials.
The method for repairing old lime buildings is also in the guidelines.
On whether they would be mandatory, the official replied, “It is a political call.
We want to make guidelines for procedure problems, but it is up to the Permanent Committee and the AMC General Council,” AMC official said.
Some rules include how to preserve wooden structures including small gaps.
“We found that many wooden haveli structures ended in the Memo market.
To prevent this, we also detail how to repair old wood structures.”
