Ahmedabad: The authorickshaw fee to step on the gas

Ahmedabad: Amdavad Na Rickshawal may still be enthusiastic about teaching you from one place to another or shows you around the city.
But it will come at a greater cost now.
If you take an autorickshaw as a convenient mode of your point-to-point transportation then your kilometer travel costs can increase by 50%.
After the increase in CNG fees, the autorickshaw driver has proposed to increase tariffs.
The price of CNG has increased by almost 15% over the past six months – from April to October.
The price of Adani CNG increased from Rs 54.62 per kg to Rs 62.99 per kg.
Gujarat gas has increased the price of CNG from Rs 52.45 per kg to Rs 60.78 per kg.
The meeting between Union members of the Autorickshaw Drivers and representatives from the Regional Transportation Office (RTO), Ahmedabad, will be held on Wednesday.
Decisions are expected to be taken at rates.
Rajveer Upadhyay, President of Union Drivers Autorickshaw (Jadu), said: “At present, the minimum cost for traveling 1.25km is Rs 15.” He added: “We have proposed to increase this to Rs 20.
It is separate, the cost per kilometer exceeds and above the minimum tariff must also be raised from the existing RS 10 per kilometer until Rs 15-16 per kilometer.” He went on to say: “We will submit this proposal before RTO officials.” Even if the per kilometer level increases to Rs 15 of the existing RS 10, it means a 50% surge.
This implies the autorickshaw rates will be revised at least 40% in the coming days.
After locking, the Autorickshaw driver faces a sharp decline in business amid restrictions on Covid-19, the emergence of work-from-home culture, and residents’ reluctance to use public transportation.
“Business has taken wells lately and we get more trips in a day.
But our income continues to blaze because of a surge in fuel costs,” said an autorickshaw driver based in Ahmedabad.
“We don’t get enough money.
We hope RTO allows us to revise the tariff.”
