Tirana: The Albanian assembly, or parliament, on Friday the approved cabinet is dominated by women, aims to bring the country to return to economic growth that focuses on tourism and agriculture, infrastructure, and energy.
After a 20-hour debate, Parliament 140 seats chose 77-53 for the new Cabinet and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The left-wing socialist party secured a third consecutive mandate record in the April 25 parliamentary election, with 74 seats.
The main opposition center democratic party gets 59 seats.
The 57-year-old Rama bragged in his speech that “this new government will enter history as a cabinet with the highest number of women” – 12 in the 17th cabinet member, encourages Albania to the top of the global ranking in terms of the percentage of women holding the position of the cabinet.
The main challenge of the government will complete the reconstruction process after the November 2019 earthquake and overcome the pandemic and its impact on the economy, as well as fighting corruption and drug trafficking, increasing growth to at least 4% per year, increasing salaries, and reducing unemployment.
Rama wants to make Albania in 2030 “the absolute champion of tourism in Balkan.” Albania, a population of 2.8 million, has been a member of NATO since 2009 and hopes to launch full membership negotiations with the European Union later this year.
