Chennai: Six men hacked the death of DMK officials in Madipakkam on Tuesday night allegedly over the allocation of seats for the election of the upcoming local agency, police said.
The dead police identified by Selvam C 48, was Secretary of DMK from Ward 188 (Rajaji Nagar, Madipakkam).
Around 8:45 a.m., Selvam came out of his party’s office when a gang member, who came on a bicycle, attacked him and horse riding.
Some community members, who saw him bleed, warned the police.
A team arrived and took him to a private hospital where he was declared dead.
His body was sent to the Chromepet Government Hospital for Postmortem.
The police checked CCTV camera records to set the attacker’s identity.
Immediately after news about the spread of murder, supporters of Selvam broke liquor bottles.
The police were deployed in large numbers near his home in Govindasamy Nagar.
The streets in the area have been battered.
The preliminary question revealed that both Selvam and his wife Shameena will be allocated seats in the local body selection that the police said could cause the murder.
The police examined to see whether hostility in the real estate business could also be the reason behind the murder.
The source said several party cadres were not happy for the seat allocation, even though high orders had not announced their candidates for the local body selection in the area.
