The US-based e-commerce giant, Amazon launched the Alexa internet feature as a website ranking service in 1996 which is a paid subscription service with analytics and detailed SEO insights.
Amazon has announced that it will close the Alexa.com service that has been operated over the past 25 years.
This service offers paid subscriptions with SEO Research and Analytics Tools will eventually stop providing statistics and ranking websites in May 2022.
Amazon said that the fire of this service might also be turned off by the company on December 2022 after the Alexa Internet was closed.
However, Amazon will allow users to back up their Alexa internet data before the service is closed forever.
Computer bleeping reports that Amazon has confirmed its decision to close web ranking services on May 2022 on the company support page.
The company mentions on the support page, “After two decades help you find, reach, and change your digital audience, we have made a difficult decision to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022”.
The Alexa Internet has stopped receiving new subscriptions since December 8 but existing customers will be able to access data until the service finally falls.
Amazon introduced the Alexa Internet in April 1996 with the Alexa traffic rating (or global rank) to be the most popular service metric, which gives users the estimated popularity of certain websites.
The company will allow users to back up their data before shutdown and will ask the customer to delete their Alexa.com account after taking the backup.
The report also added that the API from this service would be closed in December 2022.
Amazon had not provided an official reason to close the Alexa internet service.
The report shows that data from the Traffic and Marketing analysis company Semrush has shown that there has been a continuous decline in service traffic for years.
Alexa Internet’s Twitter and Facebook have not been updated with the upcoming shutdown announcement.
