Agra: Student Score of the Muslim University of Aligarh (AMU) on Friday issued a protest marching against what they suspected of targeting people from the minority community and demanding the liberation of scholars arrested on charges of conversion of illegal religion.
The students demanded the release of Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui, Maulana Umar Gautam and Mufti Jahangir Qasmi – all accused of being part of the alleged conversion racket by the police.
In memorandum aimed at the President of India, students also accused that people from the minority community are also targeted in Assam.
“If this demand is not fulfilled, we are afraid of disturbing peace,” The memorandum reading.
A student, Mohammad Salman Gori, said, “We hope the government fulfills our demands and releases Maulana Siddiqui as early as possible.”
