Madurai: Archaological fans find an ancient Dolmen close to the natural water lane in Kallanghiri in Madurai, which people have considered the temple and worshiped it.
Harun Basha, who conducted archaeological research, said that he had identified ancient structure and many of these structures were worshiped by the locals.
One of them is a dolmen in Kallanghiri near Alagarkoil in the Madurai district.
It has six 1 foot long stone slabs placed in semi-circles and larger flat stones placed on it.
This Dolmen is near the natural water channel where water flows from the neighboring hills.
People have placed small stones in it and began to worship this structure, said Basha.
He added that these villagers called it Maalaikail.
They turned on the lights and decorated the stone idol with interest, known as Kooraipoo, which bloomed in the Thai month and was considered profitable.
There is depression on stone, which might be used to put lights.
Dolmen period has not been determined.
