Gangtok: The doctor and a sanitation officer stabbed at the Statt Statt Hospital in the State Gangtok Sikkim on Tuesday suspected of being a man whose girlfriend refused to talk to him, police said.
The man, a resident of Tatangchen, went to the hospital to meet his girlfriend who did not receive his call when he was angry with him for a reason, they said.
The woman, who was in the hospital to attend the sick relatives, refused to speak and went with him when he met him, police said.
Angered with him, the man, who brought a knife, continued the piercing spree and attacked cardiologists and hospital sanitation officers, they said.
He stabbed the doctor behind on the stairs and then attacked the sanitation worker before being arrested by the police as he roamed the hospital with a blood knife in his hand, they said.
The incident triggered panic in the hospital, raising questions about security.
Asked why he took a knife to the hospital, the man told the police that he had a plan to kill his brother-in-law, who worked in the government department.
The defendant had several TIFF finance with his brother-in-law but could not meet him, he went to the hospital to meet his girlfriend, police said.
The doctor and officer, a woman, was undergoing treatment at the hospital, they said.
The condition of the doctor was declared critical, he added.
Registered cases and further investigations are ongoing, police said.
