Karwar: Former Minister of Justice and JD (S) Anand Asnotikar hinted that he would stop immediately and be able to take part in the next assembly selection as an independent candidate.
Talking to the media here Asnotikar said that building a base for JD (s) in the district of Uttara Kannada is a difficult task.
He will immediately speak with JD Supremo H Deve Gowda and former CM Kumaraswamy and receive their agreement for the contest as independent.
Asnikar joined JD in 2018, a month before the assembly poll after BJP denied the ticket.
Then he opposed the parliamentary election in 2019 and lost to Anant Kumar Hegde from BJP with a margin of around 4.50 lakh votes from the Uttara Kannada constituency.
“I realized that it was difficult to get people here to accept JD even though Karisma Kumaraswamy.
The voters are divided evenly between BJP and Congress and I have decided to compete as independent.
Before that I will look for Blessings Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy,” he said.
There has been a mass exodus from JD lately.
Two weeks ago Pradeep Devarabhavi, a former ZP member who had been contested on JD tickets from Kumta, and several other local limbs quit the party to join Congress.
Many supporters of Madhu Bangarappa have also left a party to join Congress.
Shashibhushan Hegde, nephew Previous CM Ramakrishna Hegde, is also expected to join Congress.
