Guwahati: Congress has suspended MLA Sashikanta Das, who has stirred up controversy by touching the foot of the minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma and BJP President Bhabesh Kalita.
DAS, a legislator from Raha in Central Assam, said in his reply to the party notice party that he would support the government led by BJP from the Congress to deliver development in its election.
PCC President Assam Bhupen Borah on Saturday said that “traitor” MLA would not decide on the fate of the Congress in the upcoming election.
“A party is reinforced by dedicated workers, not MLA with personal interests that weaken their own party stands against our rival BJP,” Borah said.
He said the DAS reply was unacceptable because the legislator “supports BJP support from within the Congress”.
Borah said Congress had received other video recordings of meetings where the watershed spoke like a BJP leader.
“After he (DAS) touched the foot of the President of BJP State, it was a big insult to the ideology of the congress and embarrassing for us.
We are not satisfied with the answer to the Showcuse notification in this matter.
He did not appear for the meeting of the Congress legislative party held a few days ago , where he was called, “Borah said.
The watershed on Saturday said he was surprised by the Congress decision.
“For the development of my constituency and to take the process ahead, I met the chairman of the minister.
I met the minister’s chairman openly, but many of our great leaders quietly relate to him,” he thought.
The suspension task was issued at the end of Friday by Assam PCC General Secretary Bobbeeta Sharma.
“President Hon’ble APCC Shri Bhupen Kumar Borah has suspended Sri Sashikanta Das, MLA and ACLP members, from the delayed Congress to continue the disciplined process with the direct effect to repeatedly violate party discipline and indulge in anti-party activities,” he said.
Other Congress Mla Sherman Ali Ahmed is currently under suspension and the party is awaiting the answer to the Showcuse notification.
Sherman was suspended from a party in early October, as soon as he was arrested for “insulting the assam agitation martyr”.
Congress sources said Sherman had sought until January 31 before sending the answer to the Showcuse notification.
The source said some legislators could again defect BJP allies, although it did not have to go to BJP as a minority was a determining factor in their election.
Borah said that he himself was looking for verbal clarification from MLA but they had refused to leave the congress.
