Guwahati: The number of MBBS seats at the State Medical College has risen to 1,100 after the National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 100 seats for the newly built Lakhimpur Medical College above Assam on Monday.

“The eighth medical College in Assam received official recognition today,” he said.
Medical education received a large elevator in Assam when the MBBS course was officially inaugurated at DIFE MEDICAL COLLEGE (DMC) in the carriicch of Anglong in February, taking the total number of MBBS seats in the 1,000 state.
Of the 364 seats in 2006, the increase had been significant, even though private medical colleges had not yet appeared in Assam.
The results of the NEET are being awaited and the increase in intake capacity has occurred as a big assistance for medical candidates who cannot afford to be enrolled in private medical colleges outside the state because of the high costs involved.
In Assam, in accordance with the distribution of seats, each of the highest 200 seats was allocated for Medical College, Guwahati, and Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh.
In Silchar Medical College, Jorhat Medical College, Barpeta Medical College and Tezpur Medical College, 125 seats are available in each.
In the Diphu Medical College, the intake capacity is 100.
“For the 2021-22 academic session, which immediately began, we will register students in all 1,100 seats,” said the Director of Medical Education, Anup Kumar Bartan.
