Nagaon: A Muslim man who took Hindu identity and married a woman from the faith was arrested in Hojai Assam Central District based on his wife’s complaint, a police officer said.
Women with the help of the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Hojai filed a written complaint before Hojai Inspector Police opposed her husband, police officer Lumding-in-Charge (OC) S Ka Sarma told reporters on Friday.
According to the complaint of the woman, it came from the Upper Dhemariji District of Assam, she came into contact with men both used to work in Tamil Nadu.
He claimed that the man, who came from 2 Sarke Basti Nakhuti regions under the Lumding police station in the Hojai district hid his religious identity and introduce himself as a Hindu and marry him and then began to torture him in both mentally and physically.
After a few months, her husband allegedly looted a large amount of money from him and fled Tamil Nadu to the Area of Nakhuti Assam, he claimed.
When her husband did not contact him, the woman visited the Doboka Hojai area where she learned about the identity of real religions and other details from her husband.
Hojai’s download from Barun Purkayastha police when receiving a complaint sent a team from the Lummald police station to understand the defendant from his village on Wednesday night.
The case was registered at the Lumding Police Station and the defendant was arrested on the same night and was produced in a local court in Hojai on Thursday.
“This is the case of ‘Jihad Cinta’ as a man from one faith that pretends to marry the woman”, the officer responsible for the Lumding police station confirmed.
The police have begun investigated in this relationship, he said.
