Assam to treat every new Covid case as a ‘o’ variant

Guwahati: Following a burst in the Covid-19 case, seven of them tested the Omicron variant on Thursday, Assam has decided to treat every new case from now as an Omicron variant without waiting for the results of confirmation from the sequencing of the genome, which takes at least five days to be resolved .

The Head of Minister Himanta Buswa Sarma said the government had changed the protocol to adjust to the new situation, which was different from the first two waves.

Likewise, the level of peposititivity test on Friday also increased by almost 1% in the last 24 hours to 3.32%.
The total positive case of the country in the third wave in one week from January 1 reached 3,734 on Friday.
“The number of Covid-19 cases increasingly lodged almost in two days since January 1.

“Sarma said according to the assessment of the State Health Department, from January 20 to 31, the third wave will exceed the highest number of 6,536 cases seen in the second wave.
“Our assessment is that this time the peak will be higher and can be between 10,000 and 12,000, or even more.
Omicron is very light and easily transmitted.
So, the number of Covid cases will be much higher than what we have seen in two previous waves, “He added.
