“The document was found among 15 files obtained by the Prayagraj Regional Archives from Pratapgarh.
This and many more documents related to Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri are displayed by regional archives in the city, on Friday.
According to the technical assistant (history) of the Department, RK Verma, it was in number one file titled Material for the district Gazettteers relating to Chapter-II from Political History of Deohars 1929, that several documents relating to Zamindars, TalukDars and Pratapgrah farmers were found.
“In one letter like that, it is believed to have been written by Mahatma Gandhi himself, the father of this nation told the gujrati ‘Navjivan’ newspaper editor about what he had witnessed in Pratapgah, about farmers and district landlords”, official said.
In the document, it was written on December 5, 1929, Gandhi said how he was impressed by the young Zamindars of the district, the spirit of patriotism and nationalism they could be seen in their personality because they “underwent a simple lifestyle and refrained from all worldly wasteful spending..” He mentioned That he was surprised and impressed with how zamindars and talukdar from this district were different from what he found or heard in various parts of the country.
Here young zamindars refrain from pampering yourself in atrocities and exploiting farmers, but they are customers of the agricultural community and enjoy massive support.
The next document tells how Gandhi has talked about the idea of ​​socialism, tells about the responsibility of Zamindars.
“Gandhi said, Zamindars and a great landlord had to open schools, hospitals, etc., on their property and also to serve the masses”, said Verma.
Some papers in the same file also told how Gandhi went to meet King Kaliberker, Avdesh Singh on December 5, 1929, who along with his wife had contributed a number of Rs 5,500 for party funds.
“The national congress party flag was also appointed at the House of Kuvar Suresh Singh,” said the official.
