Athens: The Greek authorities told people in Athens to live in the room on Wednesday as a raging fire uncontrollably in the north of the city covering thick smoke ceiling.
More than 500 firefighters against the flame on the slopes under Mount Parnitha, on the outskirts of the city, assisted by nine helicopters, five aircraft, policies, and soldiers in the area held in the Acharnes area.
“The fire is still raging, the perimeter is very broad and the heat load is very strong,” said a fire department.
Although hot and sharp conditions, national observatories advise people in the city to close the window and reduce movement outside because of the dangerous particles in the sky.
Temperature has more than 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) but Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said the situation on Wednesday looked better, assisted by wind and lower moisture.
One front was burned strongly but the other three subsided and had no victims reported.
Blaze broke on Tuesday in the city of Varyampompi about 20 km north of Central Athens.
In the heat, spread to the closest cities that burned houses and cars and forced residents to escape.
“Thank God, we have not lost the loss of the human life so far,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis after an initial inspection visit to the wednsday.
The IPTO power grid operator tried to restore power in several parts of the metropolitan area after the fire damaged the part of the grid.
Europe grappled with extreme weather summer, from heavy floods in the north to severe heat waves and fires that have swallowed several areas in the Mediterranean with neighboring Greece Turkey struggling for the past week.
