Auniati Satra marks Kati Bihu with a sky lights

Jorthat: When Assam celebrates Kati Bihu, a pre-harvest festival, on Monday, the historic Vaishnaviate Monastery of Majuli, Auniati Satra, turned on the traditional “Akash Bonti” (sky lights) in place for the 368th year in a row.
During that occasion, people turned on the ground lights in the fields, houses and in front of Tulsi plants to pray for a good harvest.
In Auniati Satra, the students set up a scaffold like a pillar in place and turned on the land light on it.
Satradhikar (Imam Head), Satra Students and his followers also offer prayer.
“We have organized Daylong programs today for traditional lighting” Akash Bonti “program on the occasion of Kati Bihu.
This is a unique and traditional festival, and starts in 1653 when the Satra was established.
