They began shooting when Afghanistan crowded the airport in a desperate effort to leave the country, after the Taliban took over the country,” he said .
Rai spent time celebrating his return with Chithrakala Rai’s wife and Princess Medha.
“We were anxious until Dinesh reached the airport in Qatar.
We are very happy after receiving a call from Delhi Airport.
Now, we feel relieved that he returns home,” Chithrakala said.
Desmond David D’Souza from Kinnigoli, who was also flown from Afghanistan, said Indians at the NATO base were sure to be safe returning home.
“We are safe in Afghanistan, when we work at the NATO base, but the situation turns turbulent as soon as the Taliban take control of the country.
Even though those people are worried, we are all sure to return to our country, because the evacuation process starts,” said D ‘Souza, who works for a service that provides companies, at NATO bases since 2011.
D’Souza said the situation outside the NATO base was unstable.
“We have never been allowed to leave the base.
We used to come out of the base only during the holidays, to return home.
On August 17, US military flights distribute us to Qatar Airport.
We landed in New Delhi on August 22, and then came home,” he added .
Demcy Monteiro, a resident of Uliya in Ullal, who also worked at the NATO base, arrived home on Tuesday.
His older brother Melwyn Monteiro, who worked as an electrician in a military hospital in Kabul, had returned on August 18.
DEMCY said: “We are worried after seeing the news about the Taliban attack.
We are not allowed to come out.
I have seen troops firing shots in the air at Kabul Airport.” Khader demanded the support of the Mangaluru Government Mla Ut Khader, who visited Monteiros on Tuesday, said the country and The central government must provide support to those who have returned from Afghanistan.
“The government must intervene and ensure benefits are available to those who quit the work and return from Afghanistan.
Many of them work in American companies, Germany and other foreign countries.
They have left Afghanistan without waiting for help from their employers, because of the situation Turbulgent.
So the Indian Embassy in foreign countries must hold talks with companies and provide all the benefits for those who return to India, “Khader said.
