MySuru: MySuru City Corporation (MCC) has introduced a robot called a bandicoot to clear the city drain after often complaints from people about choked underground or overflowing Gotholes.
Introduction to robots has recently helped the Civic body in reaching a five-star rating at the Safaimitra Surakha challenge by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Robot, which costs around RS 35 Lakh, has been purchased from a company based in Pune.
The machine can detect blocks in the manhole hole and automatically de-silt, clean and not credited.
A MCC official said that the robot was brought to the city in February and was used to removing waterways as experiments.
“Sanitary workers are given training to handle machines.
The engine arm can reach up to 7-8 meters in the Manhole hole and can lift up to 200 kg of waste from it.
The machine will detect blockages and help staff to erase it easily,” the official said.
Recently, robots have been used to clear blocks in Manhole in Ramuja Road, near JSS hospitals and near Kalamandira.
In the past month, the machine has been used to attend 20 serious complaints.
Commissioner MCC G Lakshmikantha Reddy said the robot has helped the company to reach a five star rating in the Safaimitra Surakha challenge recently organized by the center.
“Manual scavengers have been banned.
To clear the waterways, various machines are being used.
We have bought a sophisticated robot machine which also helps companies win an additional 50 points and 5 star rating,” he said.
The MCC UGD Executive Engineer K Sindhu told TII that the proposal was sent to buy a sophisticated robot machine to clean underground drainage.
“Advanced technology will have a camera installed on a machine that can detect blocks or problems in drainage and clearly more efficient,” he said.
