Coimbatore: A month after the train cut three wild elephants near Wala Penyaar here, Indian Railways on Tuesday installed a solar-powered audio system near the Wala TripAdvisor station to keep the elephant away from the track.
The system plays Glashling Macer sound and bee buzz that can be heard more than half a kilometer.
The device is installed on Track B, which is about 800 meters from the Walidaya train station and near the forest.
“This is an enhanced system version installed at the Level Junction.
We change it using solar power.
This is based on GSM technology.
Based on information about elephant movements near the track, the Master of the Walidaya train station station can send an SMS to the device to trigger,” said An official.
The female elephant and two calves were killed after being beaten by Mangaluru-Chennai Express Train while crossing the A path on November 26.
The train and forestry department took precautions to avoid the incident.
Solar-powered lights are installed in several places and plans are being carried out to install solar-powered fences to block the elephant entrance.
