Bengaluru: In July, the Karnataka High Court gave BBMP ultimatum to establish an 84 night shelter in six months for homeless people.
However, the Civic body only sets 14 shelters.
Activists and officials from the mission of national urban livelihoods said that 14, 10 was operating.
When the north wind reduces the temperature in Karnataka, homeless people in the city are once again left without empty promises of BBMP and state government institutions.
Hundreds of them are looking for beds – under the flyover, in open channels, outside shops, etc.
“We have approval for 46 shelters and 14 operations.
Last week, we completed several shelters and some repair work waiting for several others,” said Dairand Ka, Special Commissioner, BBMP.
The data that he shared with TOI shows the Civic body recently made three more operational protection, while the other three were ready.
He adds the rest of the approved shelter will start functioning after the BBMP signs a mous with the selected NGO to run it and the other delayed work is complete.
Said that the target of the civil body targeted 46 protection and running in the next 10 days, Dairand said the agreement for 38 shelter places (so the city got 84 as mandated by HC) was still nervous.
“We will finish it on March 202,” Dayand said, acknowledging that they would lose the HC time limit.
The High Court, while hearing pills on July 22 this year, has underlined that almost 11 years after the Supreme Court directing the state government to build a shelter in the ratio of one for one Lakh population, Karnataka only has 46 functional shelter places needed.

Activists who work with homeless people say repetitive representation and meetings with government authorities do not produce results.
They also claim that the situation in a functional shelter is confusing.
“The BBMP has provided a long-dilapidated building for this purpose.
The existing sanctuary requires a lot of improvement,” said a social activist, who did not want to be named.
The campaigner of the night shelter and inmates said that many homeless people came from other states and were migrant workers.
They accuse government agencies against migration and have no desire to carry out the old order because of their intolerance to interstate migration.
“Indians can move in their own country, but officials tell us that there are thousands of people who come to Karnataka every day and they cannot hold them.
But can the government prevent people from moving?” A activist asked.
