Patna: Special Alert Unit (SVU) on Tuesday arrested Barbigha Executive Officer Vijay Kumar, when he allegedly accepted RS48,000 bribes from the contractor in his office in Sheikhpura.
Vijay, a Kajichak resident under the Sarmera Police Station in the Nalanda District, was posted at the Barbigha office.
He demanded bribery for cleaning the bill and the process needed for construction work.
He is a Bihar administrative service officer.
SVU Adg Nayyar Hasnain Khan said Vijay was arrested below the SECTION 7 Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988, for demanding RS48,000 as a bribe of Sambhu Kumar, a contractor, to clean his bill to its implementation.
“On Tuesday, as long as the follow-up actions accused of Vijay Kumar had been captured by red hands while demanding and accepting bribes from the complainant.
Further legal actions are underway,” he said.
Sheikhpura sub-division police officers said the SVU team arrested the executive officer.
He will be produced before the Special Court in Patna on Wednesday.
According to information received, Shambhu, a Barbigha City Council contractor, has complained to Svu about the demand for money by Vijay.
“According to Singh, Vijay threatened to deny further contracts if he did not pay for a bribe,” said the source.
The trap team led by Divesh DSP Svu arrested the executive officer as soon as one Sambhu Kumar handed him bribes to him.
“Further legal action in this case and the search for his home will be carried out by the team,” he said.
Khan said in the past six months, seven cases of disproportional assets have been registered by SVU and all the defendants were arrested.
