Patna: At least one person was killed and eight police personnel were injured in violence during the celebration of Durga Idol and the Dussehra celebration in several places in the state, including Chowk at Patna City, Nanpur in Sitamarhi, in Siwali.
At Chowk Mor at Patna City, one Vicky Choudhary (23) was shot dead when taking part in the idol immersion procession on Friday night.
The city of Patna Sdpo Amit Sharan said Vicky had taken a verbal battle with an unknown young man who was snowball into a fight.
“The young man opened the fire targeting Vicky, killing him in place,” he said.
In Nanpur in Sitamarhi, at least four policemen, including Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar RAM, was injured when the villagers were throwing the Batu Batu Police.
The villagers also attacked the police with sticks and stems.
The police team had gone to the village of Raipur Pokhar to free members of the Puja Committee held hostage by locals.
Nanpur Sho Ram Vinay Kumar said the Puja Committee members had buried two of the four idols in the pool when residents of the villager objected and asked them to do a ‘parikrama’ with an idol in accordance with the regulations.
“When members of the Puja Committee refused to do so by quoting Covid’s limitations, they were held hostage by villagers,” Sho added.
Although the sources said the police opened fire on the air to disperse the horde, Sho denied the allegations.
He said a pine was put forward against 27 villagers and 150 unknown people based on the injured statement.
Meanwhile, four policemen were injured in clashes between police and anti-social elements near the Warisaliganjan train station in Nawada on Friday night.
The incident occurred when anti-social elements allegedly tried to harass the girls near Panja Pandal.
Sho of Warisaliganj Police Station Pawan Kumar said one person was arrested in connection with the clash.
At Don Bazaar under the Area of Darauli Police Station in Siwan, the villagers of Irate throwing stones when officials tried to stop the orchestra program.
Some government vehicles were damaged in the attack.
