Vadodara: Giving a nod to the Wi-Fi project proved to be quite expensive, Rs 2.3 Lakh is right, for members of the Municipality Devgadh Baria Board in Dahod District.
It turned out that the project was taken violating the norms to spend grants from the state government and were stopped in about a year.
The municipality has taken Wi-Fi and CCTV projects such as other civilians.
This project was cleaned in May 2017 and RS 35 Lakh was spent on it.
But the civil body increased when it comes to identifying funds for the project and taking it from the 14th financial commission grant.
Grants have no head for the expenditure.
In July 2018, this project was dropped by the Civic body and did not pay BSNL for broadband costs.
The municipality of money is a cough of Rs 6 lakh every year for broadband connectivity for the project.
When the problem reaches the city regional commissioner, a hearing is held.
Regional Commissioner gave orders in December last year ordered that the costs for the project must be restored from members of the municipal council present at the board meeting where the proposal was ratified.
An official said that 15 selected representatives attended the meeting.
One of them has died.
The municipality of Vijay Italy has now issued a notification to board members asking them to pay money.
Board members have been given 15 days to pay each of Rs 2.3 lakh.
If they fail to do it, the property can also be attached.
However, council members can appeal the decision too.
Only 828 devices that connect public Wi-Fi in Devgadh Baria may come from public money, but residents don’t seem to embrace it.
Only 858 people connect their devices to the network.
