Bengaluru: Officials in Central Prison, Bengaluru, recently found marijuana smuggled inside through parcel post services because visitors were not permitted to meet detainees because of Covid-19 Curbs.
Police Parapula Agrahara found two parcels with marijuana aimed at two undertrials.
They were sent from the post office in Bengaluru where there was no CCTV camera.
R latha, Head of the Central Prison Supervisory, filed a complaint of the police who said about 12.35 a night on December 25, the postman gave two packages for prisoners at the main gate of the prison.
They were aimed at Kariyappa and Abhishek, both undertrials.
“We found 10 grams of marijuana in the package intended for kariyappa and 150 grams in one for Abhishek,” Latha said in his complaint.
The prison staff questioned both of them to find out who sent the package, but no one answered satisfactorily.
The police registered the case against them under narcotics and psychotropic substances acting and tried to track the sender.
32kg marijuana was confiscated from Peddler Peddler 51-year-old arrested and 32kg marijuana worth Rs 7 Lakh was confiscated from him.
Satyapradhan, a East Bengaluru resident belonging to Odisha, was arrested in Indiranagar when many marijuana consumers were picked up in the past, they bought drugs from him.
Police said Satyapradhan would smuggle marijuana from Odisha.
