Mumbai: BMC has decided to write a private agent blacklist that resigns the Civic body contract for “reputation management”.
BMC will now request fresh tenders and find new agents to handle their social media accounts, which mainly consist of Twitter.
Last month, BMC cleared the proposal to appoint a new agent to handle his social media account for his reputation management.
With agency refusing to work with BMC for pricing issues, the Civic Agency has issued a notification of showcuse to the agency asking why it should not be blacklisted.
“We have issued a showcuse notification to the agency to refuse to work after being awarded the contract.
We will follow the legal process for the blacklist and win the deposit,” said Suresh Kakani, an additional Municipal Commissioner at BMC.
In 2019, the Civic Agency had provided a contract worth RS 5.9 Crore to the S2 Infotech S2 to manage 34 twitter handles.
Contracts, from July 2019 to July 2022, was awarded without inviting tenders.
After facing flares for high costs Rs 2 Crore per year to manage its social media accounts, BMC said the issue of the existing social media management contract and appointed a new agent on December 31.
Civil officials have submitted BMC to BMC Appointed Sunjeet Communication Pvt Ltd.
It will be a one-year contract.
BMC will spend RS 1.3 Crore and the company will provide 28 staff, including digital PR assistants, videographers, photographers and artists.
The BMC social media handle must be tracked all the time.
There is no response from nitting communication to queries from TOI.
