In a similar incident on February 8, a one-year-old leopard was arrested in a trap at Khodshi in Karad in Maharashtra Barat.
The sub-adult animal was saved by the forest team and the jaw trap was removed but his leg was severely damaged due to deep wounds.
Baheliyas’s presence is not new in this region.
After the crackdown by the Ministry of Forestry in 2012-2013, more than 100 Baheliya hunters and their supporters were arrested.
They claimed to have targeted 25 tigers from Vidarbha.
