Cane breeders protest in Madurai

Madurai: Tamil Nadu Tamil Farmers Association on Tuesday held a protest that demanded that the National Cooperative Sugar Factory in Alanangallur in Madurai, which was not functional for the past two years, began to destroy operations.
More than 200 cane breeders submitted a petition to the Main Minister M K Stalin through the Madurai District Collector S Aneesh Sekhar.
Farmers who protested also hold sugar and shouted slogans.
“This year, 2021-2022, sugar cane in 1,850 hectares registered to destroy at the factory and 60,000 tons of sugar cane is in the factory area.
Furthermore, farmers are also ready to provide 15,000 tons of sugar cane that are not registered to destroy.
Also, 50,000 tons of sugar cane from sugar mills Dharani in Vasudevanallur can be transferred to ensure continuously running from the factory, “the farmers said in their requests.
Farmers are looking for Rs 10 Crore loans to the factory for maintenance work and paying advance wages to start functioning again because they have been closed for two years.
The Association of the Tamil Nadu Nadu Nadu Association and Palanisamy said the association had reached several times in the past for the same protest, organized and submitted a request but no response so far.
“If the state government does not take steps to meet our demands, we will hold three-day protests from October 29,” he added.
