New Delhi: Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the utilization of the Universal Liability Fund (USOF) for the provision of cellular connectivity at 7,287 villages revealed in five countries with an estimated cost of Rs 6,466 Crore.
Information and Minister of Broadcasting Anurag Thakur said the villages revealed from 44 aspirational districts in five states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha would get 4G-based cellular services.
“So, a total of 7,287 villages revealed will get the tower and telecommunications service, and lakh people will get connectivity,” said Thakur.
Estimated RS Implementation Costs 6,466 Crore includes operational costs for five years.
This project will be funded by the USOF, and will be completed within 18 months signing an agreement, said statement.
The work associated with the provision of 4G cellular services in identified identified villages will be provided through an open competitive offer process according to the existing usof procedure.

USO funds are intended to help provide telecommunication access in remote parts in the country.
