Chandigarh: The UT Health Department has revised the death toll of Covid-19 of 820 to 1,076, saying 256 more victims are added to the list after checking the basic record of cremation.
UT Health Secretary Yashpal Garg said the exercise was carried out to reconcile the figure with the note that was maintained on the base of cremation in recent months.

He said the investigation of hospital records and details, documents collected from the family members of the deceased, 256 deaths were recorded on the basis of cremation due to existing guidelines.
Garg said new data was added to the Portal Ministry of Health and Welfare of Family and shared with the State Disaster Management Authority to consider the release of the Ex-Gratia RS 50,000 to KIN next to the deceased according to the central guidelines and the Supreme Court order, Garg added.
He said efforts were made to reconcile 103 deaths (22 + 81) by getting the documents needed and connected with their respective families.
