Mild to moderate rain in several parts Chennai on Wednesday is likely to increase widely until the rain is very heavy on Thursday because the low pressure system moves closer to Tamil Nadu beach.
Red warnings have been sounded for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Ranipet District until Friday morning.
Because low pressure will not increase further after reaching the coast, it is likely to decrease in the city on Friday.
Greater Chennai Corporation was prepared with personnel and machines, said Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi.
“We have opened 15 lines of Helpline 1913,” he said.
The maximum number of pumps has been deployed in TondairPet, Madhavaram, Thiru VI Ka Nagar, Kodambakkam and Perungudi to drain water.
The waterways have been cleaned and dilemen even when officials examine high-risk areas such as Ashok Nagar, T Nagar, Colathur and Pulianthope.
On Wednesday, Nungambakkam recording 12.5mm Rain, Ennore 4mm and Meenambakkam 9mm between 8:30 am and 16:30.
Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chengalpet, Tirupattor, Vellore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Kalakurichi and Puduchery are likely to receive heavy rain in isolated places on Thursday.
