Chennai: When Thiruvottitiyur Theradi Metro Station started a train operation, another station in Wimco Nagar Depot can also open the door to the public.
Depot Station Wimco Nagar is an additional from eight stations on the 9km phase-1 extension between Washermenpet and Wimco Nagar.
Both stations received a final touch and get ready a year after seven of the eight stations on the extension path opened in February 2021 was the final to start a train operation on these two stations.
“We have sent all the required documents to the station to CMR for inspection.
The station can be opened immediately,” said an official.
Officials say the station Wimco Nagar Depot is smaller than those who are on the extension path.
The Depot Station can be the nearest Metro Rail facility for the residents of Ernavoor, Chinna Ernavoor and even Ennore who can ride the train directly to the Metro Center and Metro Airport.
They can also switch corridors in Middle Metro to reach Egmore Metro or CMBT.
“This station is attached to the depot, but will have a separate entry for commuters from outside,” said an official.
The station will also serve employees in the depot, when open, and the occupants of the 20-storey building are planned on the depot.
The source said the depot built on land of 48,000 square meters can take a few more months to get ready.
The elevated depot is being built at a height of 12m with 16 lines including 11 stable lines.
Officials previously said the Thiruvottiyur Theradi station, which connected the marketing market crowd and temple area in Thiruvottiyur, could not be built on time due to the delay in acquisition of land and changes in alignment.
The high corridor was raised near the station to allow the ancient temple train to pass under the annual festival.
