Chennai: The road became alive on Tuesday morning when parents on two-wheeled and cars, and school vans and autorickshaw brought class I students to XII to school after a gap of 38 days.
The city school witnessed more than 75% of attendance.
Many parents say they are relieved schools have been reopened.
For school, it returns to new normal.
Students are filtered at the entrance to the temperature and are asked to clean their hands before entering the class.
The teacher told them to wear a mask all the time and not share food or stationery with their friends.
With the school education department that allows school to reopen with a 100% presence, the school says after distinguishing social is difficult.
Speaking to reporters after examining the government school in Chennai on Tuesday, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said 78% among the 15-18 year age group was vaccinated in the state.
SBoa School and Junior College at Anna Nagar who have a total strength of 9,980 students reopened for all classes on Tuesday.
“We have around 65% of the presence for primary classes while the higher class than VI to XII has 80% of attendance on the first day.
Attendance will increase in the coming days,” said School Principal K Manoharan.
The school allows students to enter five gates to avoid crowding and they are given the breaks of the staggered toilet.
Classes on campus for ITII’s standard I also started after a long gap.
Higher MCC Middle School in Chetpet saw around 85% of attendance.
“We have started preparing students for revision tests.
More than 90% of students from class X and XII attended classes,” said the Principal of G J Manohar.
Many schools do a half-day class for lower classes so young children can go home for lunch and don’t eat at school where they are bound to share food.
Chennai District Head Education Chennai said the city schools have around 90% of attendance among students who face the council exam.
“Vaccination among the 15-18 year age group is 92% in the Chennai district.
Students who will appear for the board exam appear in a good amount,” he said.
