Chennai: Two bus terminals become solar power

Chennai: Two Terminus Mofussil buses that appear in Kuthambakkam and Kilambakkam will be a hub to produce solar power, which will also be used to recharge electronic vehicles there.
They tend to be the first general building in Chennai being near zero clean, using renewable energy produced on campus.
Two terminus buses must be completed at the end of the year.
In addition, the 12kw solar panel in Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus which produces only 40 units, will be upgraded to 300kW to produce around 1,000 units per day.
The three terminus bus collectively will have a 10 MW solar panel which produces around 30,500 units of dailys.
In KilabonKkam, terminal 60 acre for the bus to the southern district can produce 19,200 units a day.
Kuthambakkam can produce almost 10,400 units a day.
Kilambakkam and Kuthambakkam can produce 80 to 90 percent of the electricity they need from solar energy.
There are also plans to set up the refill station for e-bus and e-cars to use the excess power they produce.
If all renewable energy is used to charge electronics, 40 buses or 800 cars can be refilled in kilambakkam.
According to the source with the CMDA, which builds the terminus bus, there may be a bond with Tangedco to share solar power produced.
While solar panels can effectively produce power for only four and a half hours a day, it will not be stored in the battery to avoid waste 20%.
This will be transferred to the Tangedco Grid for supply in neighboring areas.
In turn, Tangedco will provide power for 19 hours a day and during the rain, when solar power cannot be produced.
Secretary of CMDA member Anshul Mishra told Ti that the steps were taken to reach zero at the Madhavaram bus terminal too.
“Two public buildings in Kuthambakkam and Kilambakkam can be the first approach to zero,” he said.
