Bhubaneswar: Chief of Chhattisgarh’s Minister of Comments Bhupesh Baghel for smuggling marijuana which is rampant from Odisha to other countries has changed the spotlight on the efficacy of the state government in dealing with drug threats.
Baghel made a statement on Saturday, the day after the SUV, allegedly transporting marijuana from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh, crashing into a religious procession in Jashpur Chhattisgarh Regency, killing several people and injuring several people.
“It is often seen that the marijuana from Odisha is being transported to other countries.
The Odisha government must act hard on marijuana smugglers,” Baghel told the media in Chhattisgarh on the side of the Jashpur tragedy.
Baghel’s statement came as a shot in the arms of BJP leaders and Congress to target the powerful BJD.
“The BJD government has failed to identify real promoters and marijuana cultivation customers in the state.
Only seizures and arrests of vendors or small operators who will not help curb threats,” said the former BJP MLA Pradip Purohit.
Congress spokesman Debasis Pattnik said marijuana cultivation had been grateful thanks to collusion many corrupt police officials and income with the mafia.
He said several lower police personnel were arrested in the past to work in gloves with drug dealers.
BJD MLA Shashi Bhusan Behera denied the allegations.
“Opposition is not aware of marijuana and drug smuggling in other countries.
The police have taken tight action in Odisha.
Coordination between countries is needed to examine drug smuggling,” said Behera.
Especially the Head of Secretary of the Suresh Mohapatra recently asked the police and excise officials to improve hard action.
He also put pressure on massive awareness about alternative livelihood programs for marijuana cultivators.
The police said they had reached a record of marijuana hair in the past.
“Our enforcement has improved manifold as a result we confiscate Ganga and brown sugar in the past year.
We confiscated 1374 quintals marijuana in 2020 due to 618 quintals seized in 2019.
In August this year, we have confiscated 1229 quintals marijuana.
