Udupi: For the first time in the Regency, Koraga woman, through Sanjeevini Self Sapp Group under the mission of national rural livelihood (NRLM), has begun to produce Chikki, a traditional Indian which is generally made of nuts and jaggery.
The formal inauguration unit located in the Koraga colony in Padeebettu Village in Kaup was held recently.
CEO of Udupi Zilla Panchayat Naveen Bhat Y has assured to help SHG women by asking the government department to buy Chikki.
“Serving Chikki is not a biscuit at the Meeting of Zilla Panchayat.
Until the group officially binds with Alanganwadis, for all Meeting Zilla Panchayat, Chikki was prepared by these women to be purchased, so he helped them in the basic marketing market.
He also asked for Gram Panchayats and Taluk Panchayats for Pancahayats for Getting Chikki from a Koraga woman and serves during a meeting.
Mla Lalaji Mendon said that this was an effort to help Koraga women.
Prabhakar Achar, District Program Manager, NRLM, said that six women were trained last year, and the unit was set at a cost of Rs 6.9 Lakh, through the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) and Local Panchayat.
There is a good demand for Chikki.
Now, the government department will do the same, based on demand, and we plan to improve the installation of machines, he said.
Women who produce chikki is between 30-40 years.
They came together to form Sri Su Brahmany Sanjeevini Self Group, who later joined Sanjeevini-Karnataka State Living State Living Eyes, a government institution that implemented the National Rural Mission (NRLM) Mission Mission (NRLM) program in the state.
At present, they produce around 10 kg of chikki every day.
Meanwhile, the Koraga woman in Byndoor will soon start producing Areca plates.
