PANAJI: Chimbel Achievement Delegation has urged the Head of the Sawant Pramod minister to protect 30 strange trees facing ax at the Provedoria old age home when the priests of the carmelite sequence were deactivated also profitable property in the location.
A controversy has emerged on the tender issued by the Institute of Public Aid (IPA) – better known as Provedoria – to cut trees for new old houses in Chimbel.
IPA has run facilities for decades.
But the villagers, including members of Chimbel Manche, objected to the logging of trees on the legacy site recently told.
The villagers also hold peaceful protests outside the old house on Sunday, demanding that old buildings must be renovated.
On Wednesday, the villagers, along with members of ZP Girish Uskaikar and Priest Carmelite from Margao, Sylvester D’Souza and FR Ronaldo d’Souza, met and discussed this problem with Sawant.
The priests told Sawant that Chimbel property initially belonged to Carmelite, but after the Portuguese pressed all religious orders in Goa in 1835, the property was forwarded to Santa Casa da Misericordia, a charity organization in 1841.
Women belonging to two other institutions transferred to the monastery .
In 1949, the property was given to Provedoria, which after the release of building a new old house in the 1980s.
The priests submitted a petition to restore sites to Carmelites with evidence of archives, quotes from scientific books that belong to them.
“CM patiently heard us and promised to see this problem,” said a village resident.
