Anticipating tensions, the police have been deployed in large numbers along the route of the funeral procession, said Dr.
Leena Patil, Panchmahal police supervisor.
While there were no violations registered until late at night, the police tried to identify criminals.
“Some stones were thrown but there was no serious damage because we contained a timely situation.
We tried to identify the stone plaster from CCTV camera footage and once we identified the culprit, we will register Fir,” he said.
The large crowd has emerged for the funeral of the Kasim Hayat, a meat seller, who died in the detention of the Division Police Station B on September 15.
Hayat was detained on September 14 when he brought beef on his scooter, a day before his death.
Hayat’s family initially refused to accept the body after post-Mortem because they alleged that he died of police brutality.
Judicial questions were being carried out in the incident even when family members had submitted a complaint to the police and the local court.
On Sunday, the minority community leaders from Ahmedabad and Vadodara met senior police officers in Godhra to file a memorandum who were looking for suspension H N Patel, Division Police Office Inspector B.
