Thiruvananthapuram: Former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala opposed Lok Ayukta’s orders who have supported the Ministry of Higher Education R Bindu, and said that Lok Ayukta must clarify what the minister’s action, if not nepotism.
Breaking Lok Ayukta’s verdict on Friday, he said that section 10 of the University of Kannur law clearly said how to appoint a Chancellor representative.
In accordance with it, the search committee needs to be appointed and the governor points to a search committee.
When the search committee continued with its function, the Higher Education Minister asked the governor to dissolve the committee, and recommend to appoint someone from the government’s choice as a representative of Chancellor.
He asked where the part or action requested by the minister in the appointment of the Chancellor’s representative, was also when the action said that someone who had crossed 60 years could not be appointed.
The opposition leader VD Sathean also said that Lok Ayukta will only examine if there is corruption in the action of the minister.
But what about the action of the minister, recommending the dissolution of the search committee based on section 10 of the act of being legal, he said.
Sathean said that the minister further asked the governor to lift the Chancellor’s representative.
The opposition was firm at his sight that all of these actions were illegal, he said.
He said that Lok Ayukta had observed that letters by the Minister did not need to be considered as suggestions or recommendations.
Do these letters sent to the governor means asking for his health or as a Gestur Goodwill, Ask Satheani.
He said that Lok Ayukta had to explain, and said that the appeal must be proposed challenging the verdict.
