Istanbul: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday returned to Turkey from the G20 Summit in Rome, Canceling his presence at the COP26 conference in Glasgow, according to state media reports.
Anadolu state news agency and other media did not explain why Erdogan decided not to attend.
This year’s Turkish parliament finally ratified the Paris climate agreement, and Erdogan has emphasized its concern for environmental problems ahead of general elections because in the next two years.
Erdogan’s decision to attend a crunch meeting in Rome on Sunday with US President Joe Biden, who was estimated by the Turkish leader would occur on the sidelines of the COP26 event.
Both leaders agreed to try to go through various disputes, including the purchase of Turkey from the Russian air defense system and concern about the state of human rights under Erdogan.
