Bhubaneswar: Head of Minister of Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday demanded a special dispensation from the center to catch up with the front state because it was burdened with long-term problems such as the infrastructure gap and vulnerability to natural disasters.
The minister’s chairman raised this issue during a meeting with Deputy Chairperson of Niti Aayog Rajiv Kumar here after Think Tank said it would partner with Odisha to develop the country’s specific blue development.
The chairman of the Minister, who has demanded a special focus tag for Odisha and the center assistance equivalent to the northeastern state and Himalayas, citing its vulnerability to disasters, especially cyclones, has increased the problem of special dispensation from the center for the first time.
The official record shows that Odisha faces 16 natural disaster, including five very severe cyclones and two floods, in the last 11 years which caused destruction of public and private nature worth more than RS 35,000 Crore.
Despite being hit by natural disasters, Naveen said Odisha had made a substantial increase in the past two decades both in macroeconomic and socio-economic indicators.

The minister’s chairman also praised Niti Aayog for its support to declare in identifying priorities, sectors, and strategies for sustainable development.
During the meeting, Kumar also appreciated the achievement of countries in areas such as increasing per capita income, children’s nutritional security, an increase in agriculture and mining along with maintaining a fiscal deficit below 5%.
Some of the main suggestions made by Kumar include increasing state mining production, switching to chemical-free agriculture and preparing monitoring units to achieve sustainable development goals in all administrative settings.
“The country’s per capita growth from 2011 to 2020 is more than the national average.

We have discussed in detail with a focus on intensifying the rate of state development, increasing more people from the bottom of the poverty line and the whole district of aspirational,” Kumar said to reporters after the meeting.
