Rajkot: A Conman who lives on the airport road in Rajkot, was ordered to cheat six people from more than Rs 1.5 Crore by promising high refunds in different investment schemes.
Sanjay, accused of alias Sanju Merani finally escaped with the money.
Asif Ranpuri, Merani’s cousin, filed a complaint of fraud with the police because he also gave him Rs 70 Lakh to be promised high refund.
Police said that Ranpuri, a Mumbai resident, received Rs 22 Lakh at first, but after the money stopped coming, Merani told him to make him more investors and he would ensure that Ranpuri would benefit from him.
When Ranpuri trusted Merani, he approached his friends – Zulfikar Dodiya, Nasruddin Dosani, Ajit Magrani, Barkat Dosani and Nuruddin Makrani.
Five friends together gave Rs 1.1 Crore to Merani on Firman Ranpuri.
Merani restored the victim of Rs 11 Lakh.
But then Merani stopped sending money to all.
When investors ask Merani to pay them profits or return the invested money, Merani will continue to be opposite.
Realizing that Merani would never return money and they were cheated, six investors approached the police.
The police have not arrested Merani.
