Mangaluru: With the MLC Prathap Chandra Shetty from Congress and the City of Shrinivas Poojari from BJP which ended on January 6 next year, rapid political activities began in the Congress camp, but BJP has decided to make a decision only after the declaration of the date of election.
Congress has invited applications from candidates from coastal districts.
Former Mayor of Shashidhar Hegde, former KPCC Vice President Manjunath Bhandari and Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) Vice President Prasad Raj Kanchan has submitted an application.
The party will receive the application until September 30.
According to the source of Congress, applicants must donate Rs 1 lakh for KPCC building funds.
Dakshina Kannada DCC Vice President Sevashiva Ullal told toi that more candidates from parties are expected to submit applications before the deadline.
“We have just received three applications from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District so far.
All applications will be forwarded to KPCC, and the final decision will be taken by the High Command Party,” he said.
At voters, he said that the final voter list had not been prepared by the Election Commission.
“Voters consist of elected members of Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats Taluk, Gram Panchayats, MLAS, MLC and MPs of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Parliament.
However, Zilla Panchayats and Panchayats’s Taluk have been dissolved.
Therefore, only members of Gram Panchayat, MLA, MLC and Parliamentarians are voters.
In six months, election to Zilla Panchayats and Panceshayats Taluk must be done, “said Sadashiva.
Dakshina Kannada District BJP President Sudarshan Moodbidri said that the party was in no hurry to start the candidate selection process, because the Election Commission had not announced the date.
“We will announce the names of candidates only after the declaration of the election date,” he added.
Candidates from Congress, Shashidhar Hegde, said that even though there were nearly 6,500 voters, the number had been reduced because there were no elected bodies in Taluk and Zilla Panchayats in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District.
