Minister of Power Nilesh Cabral, who has represented the Kurchorem constituency for the last two terms, now faces great anti-farmers.
Driving at the peak of the anti-farmer wave is a 38-year-old mechanical engineer, Amit Patkar, who has submitted a formidable challenge against Cabral’s offer for the third term.
Patkar has succeeded in projecting himself as a credible alternative for BJP, even when he has managed to revive the Congress Curchorem block and unite various fates.
From the outsider ranking for the Saffron Brigade in 2012 to become a BJP minority face posting the 2017 Assembly, Cabral has been safely wearing himself in Parivar.
However, the 49-year-old mining engineer still remains like a part of the hardcore BJP and RSS workers’ constituency.
Cabral entered the assembly portal in 2012 stemmed hatred among RSS cadres for his nomination as a party candidate from Curchorem.
BJP, however, applies to RSS cadres who are not satisfied to the general meeting behind Cabral which ultimately ensured his victory over the Congress Congress of Shyam Satardekar was so confidante nearby.
In the 2017 poll, Cabral found himself once again pitted against Satardekar which was then contested as Goa Surakha Mancha candidate, with RSS cadres who support Rebel RSS Leader Subhash Velasar, working against local MLA.
Cabral, however, won with more than 9,000 margins – sound.
This time, Satardekar has provided support to Patkar and looks openly supporting the Congress.
What has added strength to the Patkar campaign is the success of the Congress leadership in preventing the rebellion, as two other candidates for Congress tickets – Former Chair of the Municipality Curchorem, Balkrishna Hodarkar, and lawyers, Harshad Dessai – have promised their support for Patkar.
Congress also projects Patkar as “Curchorem’s son to represent the Curchorem people” in his publicity label in an effort to portray local identity sentiments against Cabral.
However, the BJP camp believes that people will undergo faith in the “double machine power” party and its development trajectory, and give cabral mandates for the third term in the office.
Cabral is one of six Catholic candidates who were revealed by BJP in the 2012 poll and between seven he was in 2017, all of which succeeded in reaching the state legislature.
With the presence of Candidate AAP Gabriel Fernandes in a commotion, political observer felt, Cabral faced the threat of the possibility of the Catholic vote distribution which was largely profitable in the last two elections.
The Catholic community consists of nearly 7,000 votes from a total of 25,000 strong voters.
AAP has aggressively targeting Cabral for an increase in “exponential” income and suspected illegal construction.
Aditya Raut Dessai, a 39-year-old computer engineer, fought as a candidate for the GOANS Revolutionary Party (RG), is expected to cause damage to Congress and BJP.
Party party campaigns with the trademark of ‘Uzo’ Battle-Crys and Fiery speech-fiery attracting many noisy young people until the restrictions on Covid ECI at the party’s established campaign meeting translated into choosing for newly registered parties.
Former Cacora Municipality Curchorem Cacori Member member, Vithoba (Anand) Prabhu Dessai, fighting as a MGP candidate, is likely an alternative for those who care for reluctance to Cabral and Congress.
Will the opposition brigade stop Juggernaut Cabral? The knife came out, and for now, it was an allegation of anyone.
