Panaji: “Mashal Morcha” organized by Congress on Wednesday changed with violence after Goa police decided to lathich workers who protested the function of the off-shore casino.
Congress protesters claim that the hordes of people who visit the casino, which have been allowed to operate at a capacity of 50%, will lead to the third wave of Covid-19 in the state.
Congress also demanded that the state government stop the ongoing five-day poker championship conducted by one offshore casino operator.
They said that if the tournament was not stopped, Congress workers would enter the casino and disturb the tournament.
A big fence police personnel threw a massive Cordon around the casino to prevent protesters reach the casino reception area outside the coast in D B Road.
Congress claims that no soup followed by offshore casinos.
“It seems that the casino has given a contract to the Goa police to protect him.
The police have hit women.
No one has today’s right to protest in Goa because the Goa police are asked to beat everyone,” said the President of the Varad Youth Congress Mardolkar.
Mardolkar along with Amarnath Panjikar, Sankalp Amonkar, Janardhan Bhandari, Curhorim Mla Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, Naushad Chaudhari and many others lead protests.
Although there was clear evidence that police personnel swung Lathi to the demonstrators, including women and youth, senior police officers then claimed that there was no lathicharge that occurred.
“Congress demands that DGP have to tell who ordered Lathicharge? Why did the peace protesters attack? Why did the police act like BJP’s personal strength? Why even the protesters of women were chased and lathicharged,” said the State Congress of President Girish Chodankar.
“We need to condemn this government behavior and Goa Police.
The government has said that casinos can operate at a capacity of 50% but there is no check about this, no one checks their vaccination status or if they wear a mask.
This will lead to the third wave,” said Vice President of Sankalp Amonkar Congress.
Mamlatdar said that the rally had blocked public roads and that there was no permission to block the road.
However, Congress workers said that the police had blocked the road as part of the protective Cordon.
“Look at the crowd outside the casino.
No one wears a mask.
What’s the intention behind inviting people from all over the world to play in the casino?” Said Mardolkar.
