Rajkot: A 47-year-old man was arrested by Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) from City Rajkot on Wednesday to deceive people, especially women.
The defendant used to commit a crime in the afternoon when most housewives alone at home.
Police arrested Vihabhai Parmar, a resident of Vivekanand Nagar from Rajkot City, from Jalan Kalavad on Wednesday morning and won gold and silver jewelry from him.
On August 18, Hetal Lathia, a housewife who lives in the Father of Sitaram Chowk in the Ramnagar area in Rajkot, filed a complaint against unidentified people who seized his jewelry worth Rs 6.67 Lakh.
“Someone who wore Saffron’s clothes came to my house on the afternoon of August 18 and asked for a glass of water.
After drinking it, he asked for more water.
When I brought a glass of water again, he asked me to drink it claiming to be ‘presad’ god who would Cure all the diseases I suffered.
He also asked for my jewelry to do ‘Puja’.
I fainted after drinking water.
When I realized again, the man had disappeared with the jewelry I gave him, “Lathia said in complaints of his police.
Parmar was ordered under various parts of the Indian criminal code including 406 (criminal violations of trust), 420 (cheating) and 328 (causing poison wounds).
“We appeal to people who have been victims of the crime to report to us,” said a police officer.
“Even though the defendant denied it, we suspected that he might have done more crime in the city,” he added.
